North Simcoe Stewardship (NSS) is the local affiliate of the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Ontario Stewardship Program. The purpose of this community stewardship council is to contribute to the larger provincial program by creating a forum through which community stakeholders can work collaboratively toward the achievement of common land and resource stewardship objectives. NSS is governed by a volunteer board of directors that represent various land and resource interests within the community. The Ministry of Natural Resources contributes a paid representative to the board that is referred to as the Stewardship Coordinator who acts as the main facilitator on behalf of the group and various community partners.
MTM Conservation Association was founded in part by North Simcoe Stewardship whose principal role in the early stages was to facilitate the transfer of management responsibilities from the provincial government to the organization. This level of support and partnership with MTM has persisted through the years. To date, as a Technical Advisor to the board of directors, the North Simcoe Stewardship Coordinator continues to provide ongoing assistance to the MTM via active involvement on the MTM board of directors and the ongoing provision of access to information and resources. The Stewardship Council has also provided financial subsidies to the MTM in support of specific initiatives and/or on-the-ground project support via access to either the Stewardship Coordinator or the Ontario Stewardship Ranger Team administered by the local stewardship council.
In the past couple of years MTM Conservation Association has dedicated a significant amount of time to reviewing the current program and setting priorities for the future and North Simcoe Stewardship has committed to working closely with the organization to both expand the existing program and develop new opportunities to address these emerging priorities. This website is just one product of the collaborative effort between the two organizations.
